Your sketchbook is portable and on-the-go. You don't need a studio or expensive tools—every day becomes an opportunity to learn, experiment, and grow.
Most importantly - sketchbook fosters imagination in a freeing, non-judgmental way.
A sketchbook practice can completely change your life - it changed mine. If we haven’t met before - hi, my name is Shouh!
I’ve spent the last two decades teaching and practicing art, constantly reflecting on why it feels so essential to who I am. If I had to sum it up in one line, it’s this:
The greatest joy is found in life’s simplest moments.
But life passes us by in the blink of an eye.
The sketchbook?
It’s my cheat code for slowing down time, capturing the good stuff of life—doodles, ticket stubs, half-baked ideas, all of it. It’s my visual diary, a repository of memories, a documentation of my life.
Some other benefits of keeping a sketchbook practice:
1. It’s the greatest ideation tool - Action leads to motivation. One mark leads to the next, A single doodle sparks another. A few words can inspire an entire poem. Each small step builds on itself, creating something unexpected and exciting.
2. It’s your personal playground - Vomit your thoughts on paper! It’s a space where you can experiment, make mistakes, and uncover new creative pathways that feels honest, and authentically yours.
3. Sketchbook practice helps me reconnect with my humanity - myself, others, and the world around me, especially in an increasingly disconnected world. It’s a way to slow down, be present, and rediscover the beauty hidden in everyday life.
4. Sketchbook is rest - It’s restorative work. It’s what replenishes the creative energy bank.

I know online courses can sometimes feel like talking to a wall. So, I’m shaking things up: two instructors, two perspectives, double the realness.
Great instructional design doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it’s built through real-life experiences and honest conversations. That’s why I teamed up with Julian Thom, a YG alum and Glasgow School of Art grad who lives sketchbooks. (Check out his work here)
But that’s not it. To stand on the promise of delivering you the ultimate creative toolkit, we battle-tested the course content on 40+ students and here are some of their testimonials:

MB, 26, RESEARCHER
I used to do art but I get discouraged by my self proclaimed lack of skill. I would like to get back into it and be kind to myself while doing art.
The course allowed me to get back in touch with my creativity without judging myself. The vibe of the community was amazing and very supportive.
It unlocked something for me and I aim to make this an everyday habit.

The exercises were fun and helped me discover a creative side I didn’t think I had. It taught me to focus on the process instead of worrying about the outcome.
JOYCE, 31, STAY-AT-HOME MOM
As an artist in my 50’s I have kept a sketchbook off and on for much of my adult life, with varying degrees of engagement and satisfaction. Keeping a sketchbook is not only important for working artists, but is a great tool for anyone wanting to document their daily life.
If you are new to art, this course will give you practical strategies to begin that visual conversation. If you are a seasoned artist, the engaging activities will be a great reminder and inspiration to keep those creative juices flowing!
